Hekateaen Devotional Rite

  • Deep Earth Arts 103 Cottage Street Littleton, NH, 03561 United States (map)

On the new moon, there is a tradition of creating a dinner offering for Hekate, Hellenic goddess of crossroads, magic, and a myriad of other sometimes contradictory things. This dinner is called a deipnon.

This will be a devotional rite to ask for her blessings. We will approach her as the goddess who lights the way in the dark, who opens the gates closed to us, as the one who frees us from unhelpful bonds, and as the queen of the three realms.

While her other aspects will be mentioned in her invocation, these are the parts that we will mainly focus on.

Should you be attending, you will be expected to bring a small offering of one of her traditional foods. This includes: eggs, garlic, honey, cake, pomegranates, or leeks. Anything else that you find with historical precedent as an offering to her works as well.

The food will be for her, but we will all have a little pomegranate juice during the rite.

Isaac has had a deep devotional relationship with Hekate for the past 2 years and is excited to share some of this practice with other folks.
