Winter Solstice Processsion

  • Deep Earth Arts 103 Cottage Street Littleton, NH, 03561 United States (map)

Join us in our walk down Main Street in Littleton, dressed in costumes making noise to scare out the bad and welcome in the good for the upcoming year.

All of us, if we trace our roots back, have ancestors that did some kind of anima-like ceremonies to affirm connections to the earth and it's cycles if birth and death. They also chased away illness and the "monsters" and spirits that might bring malevolent activities.

In a general these kinds of events followed the seasons or the growing, gathering and hunting of food and resources. Rituals and ceremonies served a very very practical application... they simplified a complex world into one that our ancestors could engage and navigate. Sacred space were where the community could open themselves up to the mystery/mysterious. They could step out side of their mundane lives into a direct connection to phenomena beyond the ordinary. For a brief period of time They be come be part of the greater forces that drove their lives.

So, let's be part of the procession of the year! Wear big costumes! Bring noise makers! Go big!
